Approach
My first priorities are to provide a safe, respectful, non-judgmental space while getting to know you and an understanding of your situation. My approach is active, direct, and empathetic. Whether you need support, a different perspective, or are ready to resolve deeper, more chronic issues, we can collaborate to help you move forward.
While I draw upon a range of counseling approaches and theories, the foundation of my work is rooted in Gestalt therapy. Gestalt therapy is a present-centered, relationship-oriented treatment approach that focuses on awareness and encourages participation in lifelong growth. While I've found that Gestalt therapy gets to the heart of what's driving symptoms, I also value and utilize my training in EMDR therapy, Gottman Couples Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, and Internal Family Systems.
Professional Background
I have always been drawn to helping others and fascinated by the complexities of human behavior, relationships, and psychology. Since earning licensure as a counselor in 2008, I have counseled children, adolescents, and adults in community mental health, private practice, and university settings. I have enjoyed teaching a variety of courses for The University of Dayton's clinical mental health program since 2009. My first career was in higher education admissions at The College of Wooster and Vanderbilt University. And from babysitting to serving tables, coordinating a mentoring program and working as a graduate assistant.... these experiences have been instrumental to my work as a psychotherapist.
Personal
I love being a mom and navigating life with my husband. While I like to stay active, I also enjoy a good book or TV binge. I also enjoy diving into the latest information and research on functional medicine, fitness, nutrition, and parenting.
